Driving in the UAE just became a bit safer with the announcement of updated speed limits across several key roads.

In 2024, more than 10 million speeding violations were recorded, prompting authorities to emphasize the importance of adhering to speed regulations to prevent accidents.

Key Speed Limit Changes

  1. Abu Dhabi: Starting April 14, the speed limit on Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed International Road (E11) will drop from 160 km/h to 140 km/h. Similarly, the Abu Dhabi–Sweihan Road (E20) will see a reduction from 120 km/h to 100 km/h.
  2. Minimum Speed Limits: On Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Road, drivers in the leftmost lanes must maintain a speed of at least 120 km/h. Failure to do so could result in a Dh400 fine.
  3. New Road Markings: To enhance visibility of speed limits, Abu Dhabi City Municipality has introduced red pavement markings on various roads, including Abu Dhabi–Al Ain Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Street.
  4. Dubai Updates: In Dubai, speed limits on Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street have been adjusted to 100 km/h, while Al Amardi Street is standardized to 90 km/h.
  5. Sharjah Adjustments: The speed limit on Al Wahda Road and Al Ittihad Road has been reduced from 100 km/h to 80 km/h along a key stretch.
  6. Ras Al Khaimah Changes: The speed limit on Sheikh Mohammed bin Salem Street has been lowered from 100 km/h to 80 km/h to enhance safety in residential and commercial areas.

Importance of Compliance

Authorities stress that compliance with these speed limits is crucial for road safety. Heavy penalties are imposed for violations, including fines that can reach up to Dh3,000 for exceeding speed limits by more than 80 km/h.
