Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to check a used car’s accident history in the UAE.
Understanding the Chassis Number
Before diving into the details, it’s essential to know the chassis number, also known as the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
This unique 17-digit code reveals vital information about the car, including its manufacturer, origin, engine details, and accident history. You can find the chassis number in several places:
- On the back of the vehicle registration card (mulkiya)
- On the dashboard, printed on the driver’s side
- On the side door
Where to Check Accident History
There are three reliable government sources where you can verify a vehicle’s accident history online:
- Ministry of Interior (MOI)
- Visit the MOI website here.
- Enter the chassis number and complete the captcha verification.
- Submit your request to view any registered accidents, including details like location, date, time, and report number.
- Emirates Vehicle Gate (EVG)
- Go to the official EVG website at evg.ae.
- Click on the ‘Traffic Accidents Management’ section.
- Enter the chassis number and hit ‘Search’ to view accident reports and details.
- TAMM (Abu Dhabi Police)
- Access the TAMM website at tamm.abudhabi.
- Select ‘Government Entities’ and then ‘Abu Dhabi Police.’
- Search for ‘View Vehicle Accident History’ and log in using your UAE Pass to enter the chassis number and retrieve past accident reports.
Additional Considerations When Buying a Used Car
- Outstanding Fines: Before registering the vehicle, check for any unpaid fines. The new owner is responsible for settling these dues. You can verify outstanding fines through the Dubai Police or RTA website.
- Inspection Report: Obtain a detailed inspection report that outlines the vehicle’s accident history, repairs, and overall condition.
- No-Objection Certificate (NOC): If the car was financed through a bank, ensure you have a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the bank before transferring ownership.
By following these steps, you can make a well-informed decision when purchasing a second-hand car in the UAE, ensuring that you are not only getting a good deal but also a safe and reliable vehicle.
