As preparations intensify for the FIFA World Cup 2026, the United States Embassy in Doha has issued a formal reminder to citizens and residents of Qatar to begin planning their travel to the U.S. early, especially if they intend to attend matches hosted across American cities.
The Embassy’s advisory outlines specific travel procedures tailored for both Qatari citizens and Qatar residents, urging timely compliance with visa requirements to ensure a smooth entry process amid what is expected to be one of the most attended sporting events in history.

Visa-Free Travel for Qatari Citizens via ESTA
Qatari nationals eligible under the U.S. Visa Waiver Program are advised to submit their applications through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) no later than 72 hours before departure.
ESTA permits short-term visits—up to 90 days—for tourism or business, without the need for a traditional visa.
Visa Requirement for Residents of Qatar
For non-citizen residents of Qatar, a valid non-immigrant U.S. visa is required. The Embassy is urging those in this category to begin the visa application process well in advance, highlighting the risk of processing delays as the tournament approaches and global travel demand surges.

North America to Host Expanded World Cup
The 2026 edition of the FIFA World Cup will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico—the first time the tournament will span three nations.
With the U.S. hosting the majority of the fixtures, it is expected to attract millions of fans from around the globe, making early visa arrangements essential for smooth travel.
Access to Resources
The Embassy has encouraged travelers to consult its official website for comprehensive guidance on the application process, eligibility criteria, and appointment availability. Additional assistance is available through the consular section for those requiring support.
As global anticipation builds for football’s most prestigious tournament, the Embassy’s message to Qatar-based fans is clear: plan early, apply early, and travel confidently.
