UAE: Dh2,000 Fine for Drying Laundry on Public-Facing Racks in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi is taking a firm stance on maintaining the aesthetic appeal of its urban environment with new regulations that target residents drying clothes on balconies and windows overlooking public roads.
This initiative, spearheaded by the Department of Municipalities and Transport, aims to ensure a more organized and visually pleasing city landscape.

The guidelines explicitly prohibit the placement of drying racks outside windows or balconies that face public roads.
This move is part of broader efforts to enhance the overall appearance of the emirate and promote civic responsibility among residents.
Violators will face escalating fines: Dh500 for first-time offenses, Dh1,000 for second violations, and up to Dh2,000 for repeated infractions.
This decision follows similar regulations issued last month concerning abandoned and dirty vehicles on public streets, highlighting the authority’s commitment to keeping Abu Dhabi clean and attractive.
The municipality has repeatedly warned residents that airing laundry in visible areas distorts the image of buildings, detracting from the city’s charm.
As the emirate continues to grow, these measures reflect a proactive approach to urban management, encouraging residents to contribute to a more beautiful Abu Dhabi.
