Abu Dhabi has officially removed the minimum speed limit of 120 km/h on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Road (E311), a move aimed at enhancing traffic safety and improving the flow of heavy vehicles.
This change, announced by Abu Dhabi Mobility, took effect on April 14, 2025.

Motorists will no longer be required to adhere to the minimum speed, which was previously enforced on the first two lanes of the road.
The maximum speed limit remains at 140 km/h. The decision follows numerous complaints from drivers who faced fines for not maintaining the minimum speed, particularly in congested traffic situations.
Residents expressed relief at the removal of the rule, with many sharing experiences of receiving fines despite challenging driving conditions.

One motorist remarked, “I was fined for no fault of mine when a military convoy slowed traffic. I’m glad they are scrapping this rule.”
This adjustment is part of a broader initiative by Abu Dhabi authorities to improve road safety and traffic management.
Just days prior, there was a reduction in speed limits on other major highways, including the Abu Dhabi-Sweihan Road (E20) and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed International Road (E11).
