Abu Dhabi Imposes Dh4,000 Fine for Abandoned or Dirty Vehicles

In a bid to maintain urban aesthetics, Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has announced stringent penalties for car owners who abandon or neglect their vehicles.
Fines can reach up to Dh4,000 for those leaving dirty or abandoned cars in public spaces.

The DMT emphasized that these penalties align with Law No. 2 of 2012, aimed at fostering a sustainable and visually appealing environment.
The fines are categorized into three tiers based on the severity of the violation:
- For leaving dirty or unkempt vehicles:
- First offence: Dh500
- Second offence: Dh1,000
- Third and subsequent offences: Dh2,000
- For abandoning a vehicle’s body or frame:
- First offence: Dh1,000
- Second offence: Dh2,000
- Third and subsequent offences: Dh4,000
Additionally, the DMT has raised awareness about fines for public littering, with penalties ranging from Dh2,000 to Dh4,000 depending on the violation.
In comparison, Dubai imposes a Dh500 fine for abandoned vehicles, highlighting the region’s commitment to maintaining urban cleanliness and appeal.
If a motorist is fined in Dubai, they will receive an SMS notification outlining the penalty and payment timeline.
