UAE Residents: Can You Keep Your Bank Account After Visa Cancellation?

According to legal experts, the cancellation of a residency visa does not automatically result in the freezing or closure of a bank account.

As per the regulations set by the UAE Central Bank, an account remains active as long as the customer maintains communication with the bank and engages in some form of activity, such as transactions or service requests.
Accounts are only classified as dormant if there has been no activity for three years and no communication from the account holder.
For individuals like one reader whose husband recently lost his job, it is crucial to inform the bank about the change in residency status.

While the account may transition to a non-resident account, this does not mean it will be immediately frozen or closed.
Experts advise maintaining active communication with the bank to ensure continued access and to clarify any changes in account terms following visa cancellation.
