According to reports from the Saudi Press Agency and a tally by AFP, the total reached 101 by late November, nearly tripling the figures from both 2023 and 2022.

The recent execution of a Yemeni national for drug smuggling brought the total to this unprecedented number.

Taha al-Hajji, legal director of the Berlin-based European-Saudi Organisation for Human Rights (ESOHR), noted that this is the largest recorded number of executions for foreigners in the Kingdom’s history.

The breakdown of nationalities among those executed includes:

  • 21 from Pakistan
  • 20 from Yemen
  • 14 from Syria
  • 10 from Nigeria
  • 9 from Egypt
  • 8 from Jordan
  • 7 from Ethiopia
  • Additional individuals from Sudan, India, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Eritrea, and the Philippines. rights organizations have criticized Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman for overseeing a crackdown on freedom of expression since his rise to power. This includes the enactment of a controversial counterterrorism law criticized for its broad definition of terrorism.

The surge in executions can be attributed to the resumption of executions for drug offenses, which had been put on hold for three years.

In 2024 alone, there have been 92 executions related to drug crimes. Under Bin Salman’s rule, which began in June 2017, at least 1,115 executions have been documented.
