The announcement was made on January 29, 2025, during a ceremony at the airline’s headquarters in Jeddah, attended by IATA’s regional vice president for Africa and the Middle East, Kamil Al-Awadhi.

This membership is a significant step for flyadeal as it aims to bolster its operational capabilities and align with global aviation standards. In November 2024, flyadeal received the IATA Operational Safety Audit certification, underscoring its commitment to safety and operational excellence.

Supporting Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030

Saudi Arabia’s investment in its aviation sector is part of the broader Vision 2030 initiative, which seeks to diversify the economy and enhance global connectivity.

The Kingdom aims to accommodate 330 million passengers annually by 2030, with plans to serve over 250 destinations and transport 4.5 million tonnes of air cargo.

Steven Greenway, CEO of flyadeal, expressed pride in the airline’s new membership, stating, “Since our founding in 2017, our growth has been rapid, with operational safety as a top priority.

Becoming an IATA member was a natural next step for us.” He emphasized the importance of collaborating with established airlines like Saudia, which has been an IATA member for 80 years.

Focus on Expansion and Connectivity

With a fleet of 36 Airbus A320 aircraft, flyadeal is set to significantly expand its network over the next year, reinforcing its role in Saudi Arabia’s aviation landscape.

The airline plans to operate dedicated international charters during the upcoming Hajj season, aiming to carry over 75,000 pilgrims.

Al-Awadhi highlighted flyadeal’s inclusion in IATA as a testament to the airline’s contribution to Saudi Arabia’s aviation growth, praising the government’s ambitious vision for the sector.

He reaffirmed IATA’s commitment to supporting the Kingdom’s strategy for developing a robust and sustainable aviation industry.

As flyadeal embarks on this new chapter, it is poised to play a crucial role in enhancing travel options and fostering economic growth in Saudi Arabia.
