Qatar Responds to Iranian Missile Attacks: Calls for Dialogue and Restraint

Doha — In a live press conference aired on Qatar Television, Dr. Majid bin Mohammed Al-Ansari, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, characterized the recent Iranian missile attacks on the US air base at Al Udeid as a “serious and unexpected escalation.” This incident comes despite Qatar’s ongoing efforts to foster dialogue and seek peaceful resolutions to regional conflicts.

Dr. Al-Ansari emphasized Qatar’s commitment to resolving disputes through diplomacy and urged all parties to return to the negotiating table to ensure regional stability and security.
During the conference, Shayeq Al-Hajri, Deputy Chief of Joint Operations of the Qatari Armed Forces, revealed that intelligence had indicated potential threats to military bases in the region, including Al Udeid Air Base.

At approximately 7:30 PM, Qatar’s air surveillance systems detected the launch of seven missiles from northern Iran, targeting the base.
Fortunately, these missiles were intercepted and destroyed over the sea shortly after entering Qatari airspace.
A second wave of missile attacks followed, consisting of 12 missiles. While 11 were successfully intercepted, one missile fell within the confines of Al Udeid Air Base, fortunately causing no casualties or significant damage.
Jabr Al-Nuaimi, Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, reported that the minor fires caused by shrapnel were quickly contained, with no injuries reported.
In a joint statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defence reassured the public that life is returning to normal following the successful interception of the missile threats.
The Ministry of Interior confirmed that the security situation in Qatar remains stable, with no cause for concern.
Additionally, plans to reopen airspace are underway following a temporary shutdown.
