Saudi Arabia to Start Implementing Sale of Livestock by Weight from June 26

The Saudi Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture has announced that new regulations for the sale of live livestock by weight will come into effect on June 26, 2025 (Muharram 1, 1447 AH).
This initiative aims to regulate livestock sales in public markets across the Kingdom, ensuring fair value for both producers and consumers while contributing to environmental and economic sustainability in line with Saudi Vision 2030.

Key Features of the New Regulations
Sale of Livestock by Weight
- Implementation: The sale of live livestock for slaughter will be conducted based on weight.
- Purpose: This regulation seeks to promote fairness and transparency in livestock transactions and improve the quality of services in public markets.
Terms and Conditions
- Weight Determination: Livestock must be weighed using approved scales before sale. Sellers are responsible for providing accurate scales.
- Maintenance and Cleanliness: Scales must be regularly maintained and kept clean to prevent disease spread among animals.
- Weighing Environment: A suitable environment must be ensured during weighing to avoid harm or stress to the livestock.

Transparency and Compliance
- Visible Weighing Process: The weighing process must be transparent, allowing both buyers and sellers to observe.

Inspector Authority
