When Will Ramadan 2025 Start? Key Details for the UAE
Ramadan, the ninth and holiest month in the Islamic calendar, is anticipated to begin on Saturday, March 1, 2025. This month is significant for Muslims as it involves fasting from dawn until dusk, increased prayers, and charitable acts. The month commemorates the revelation of the Quran to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
End of Ramadan: If Ramadan starts on March 1, it will likely conclude on either March 29 or 30, depending on the lunar cycle.

Work and School Hours During Ramadan
Working Hours
- Private Sector: The UAE’s labor law mandates an eight-hour workday, but during Ramadan, this is reduced by two hours daily. This applies to all employees, regardless of whether they are fasting.
- Public Sector: Ministries and federal agencies typically operate from 9 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday through Thursday, and from 9 AM to 12 PM on Fridays.
School Hours
While official announcements for school hours during Ramadan 2025 are yet to be made, it is expected they will follow previous years’ schedules. Last year, private schools were required to limit their daily operations to five hours, with classes ending by 12 PM on Fridays.
Public Transport Adjustments
To accommodate Ramadan’s unique timetable, Dubai’s public transport will adjust its schedules:
- Dubai Metro: Extended operating hours, likely until midnight or later, to facilitate travel for Iftar and Taraweeh prayers.
- Buses: Bus schedules will align with meal timings, ensuring efficient travel to mosques and community events.
- Taxis and Ride-Hailing: Increased availability to support late-night travel.
Parking and Salik Adjustments
The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will implement changes to parking and toll rates:
- Free Parking: Offered during Iftar hours (from sunset until 8 PM).
- Adjusted Parking Timings: Paid parking will operate from 8 AM to 6 PM and 8 PM to 10 PM, with free parking available between 6 PM and 8 PM.
UAE Holiday Calendar for 2025
Significant public holidays during 2025 include:
- Eid Al Fitr: Expected to be observed from Shawwal 1 to 3.
- Eid Al Adha: Scheduled from Thu Al-Hijjah 10 to 12.
If Ramadan lasts for the full 30 days, the last day will also be a public holiday, extending the Eid celebrations.
