The scammer posed as a landlord and requested deposits or initial payments to “secure” rental properties. Once the payments were made, the suspect would cut off all communication and disappear, leaving victims without their money.
Dubai Police’s Anti-Fraud Center emphasized that such actions constitute cyber fraud, which is punishable under the law.
Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and avoid transferring money without first verifying the landlord’s identity and confirming property ownership through official channels.
Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious listings or fraud attempts using the Dubai Police app or by calling 901.
The police highlighted that public awareness and cooperation are crucial in combating these types of scams.
