As pilgrims prepare to move to Mina for the annual Hajj pilgrimage, the Ministry of Health has intensified its field and awareness initiatives to safeguard their health and prevent heat stress.

This effort aligns with Vision 2030’s Health Sector Transformation Program and the Pilgrim Experience Program, aimed at ensuring a safe and healthy Hajj.

Key Recommendations for Pilgrims

Preventive Measures

  • Stay Hydrated: Drink water regularly, even if not thirsty.
  • Use Umbrellas: Protect yourself from direct sunlight.
  • Wear Appropriate Clothing: Choose light-colored, lightweight clothing.

Recognizing Symptoms of Heat Stress

Pilgrims should be aware of the following symptoms:

  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Excessive sweating
  • Thirst
  • Nausea

If these symptoms occur, pilgrims should:

  1. Move to a shaded area.
  2. Cool down with water.
  3. Drink plenty of fluids.

Guidelines for Sun Exposure

  • Avoid Direct Sunlight: Stay out of the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m..
  • Watch Your Step: Avoid walking on hot surfaces.
  • Caution During Strenuous Activities: Be careful when engaging in activities like climbing on the Day of Arafat, as this can increase the risk of heat stress.

The ministry has established over 34 equipped field health units strategically located across the holy sites to provide urgent medical care and rapid response for heat-related cases.

A health awareness kit is available in eight languages, offering comprehensive health guidelines to assist pilgrims.

Through its advanced field system and qualified medical personnel, the Ministry of Health is committed to promoting safety and ensuring that pilgrims can perform their rituals comfortably and healthily.
