UAE: Can Deportees Return? Here’s How to Apply for Reentry

A recent inquiry has raised questions about the reentry process for individuals deported from the UAE. A reader’s friend, who was deported in 2022 following a financial dispute that escalated into a physical altercation, is now considering returning for a job opportunity.
Under Article 18 (1) of Federal Decree Law No. 29 of 2021, a deported individual cannot return to the UAE without prior approval from the President.

This means that the friend must seek permission before reentering the country.
To initiate the process, the individual should submit a formal application to the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) or the Ministry of Interior.
The application should include essential documents such as a passport, UAE identity number (if previously issued), deportation order, and a valid job offer from a UAE employer, along with a detailed explanation of the purpose for returning.
The application will be reviewed by the relevant authorities, who will make a decision at their discretion. It is advisable for the individual to consult a qualified legal expert in the UAE to navigate this process effectively.
