Grand Hajj Symposium Starts in Jeddah

The 49th Grand Hajj Symposium began in Jeddah on Sunday, themed “Capability in Hajj and Contemporary Developments.”
Organized by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah in collaboration with the Council of Senior Scholars and the King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives, the event gathered esteemed scholars and researchers from across the Islamic world.

Key Highlights
Inauguration
- The symposium was inaugurated by Minister of Hajj and Umrah Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, who described it as an important intellectual platform for prominent thinkers to discuss the significance of Hajj and its religious and cultural dimensions.
Infrastructure Developments
- Dr. Al-Rabiah outlined several new initiatives, including:
- Infrastructure Projects: 170,000 square meters of shaded areas, the planting of 20,000 trees, and the construction of rubber walkways to enhance pilgrims’ comfort and safety.
- Healthcare Readiness: Establishment of a new emergency hospital, 15 ambulance units, 71 rapid intervention points, and 64 two-story health complexes.
- General Transport Center: An institutional model for managing transportation in Makkah, integrating buses and the Haraman High-Speed Railway into an efficient system.

Enhanced Services
- The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque has prepared an advanced operational package, including:
- Upgrades to audiovisual equipment.
- Development of childcare centers.
- Services tailored to meet the diverse needs of pilgrims.
Addresses from Dignitaries
- Prince Faisal bin Salman, Special Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, emphasized the Kingdom’s commitment to the Two Holy Mosques and Hajj. He highlighted the importance of serving pilgrims as a sacred honor and national duty.
- He announced the launch of the Hajj and Two Holy Mosques History Forum, aimed at promoting the heritage of the Two Holy Mosques and facilitating global scholarly exchange.

- The Saudi Grand Mufti, represented by Sheikh Fahd Al-Majed, noted the symposium’s long-standing focus on vital topics concerning Hajj and Islamic affairs. He emphasized this year’s theme on “Capability” in Islamic jurisprudence, discussing its practical implications in light of contemporary developments.
