Sheikh Mohammed Introduces Public Health Law to Protect Dubai’s Health

In a significant move to enhance community well-being, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, has enacted Law No. (5) of 2025 concerning public health in Dubai.

This comprehensive legislation aims to create a robust framework for improving public health standards and safeguarding both community and environmental well-being.

A Focus on Disease Prevention and Safety

The new law emphasizes disease prevention, healthcare, food safety, and sustainable initiatives, all designed to elevate the quality of life for Dubai’s residents.

By minimizing health risks through evidence-based practices aligned with local and international regulations, the law fortifies the emirate’s preparedness against public health challenges.

Colonel Mohammad Alay Al Naqbi, Director General of the Traffic and Patrol Department, highlighted the importance of this law in promoting awareness around health risks and prevention strategies.

It encourages shared responsibility among residents for maintaining health standards and fosters an environment conducive to investment.

Clear Roles and Responsibilities

The law outlines the specific roles of various authorities, including the Dubai Health Authority and Dubai Municipality, in managing communicable diseases and enforcing public health regulations.

Healthcare providers, both public and private, are also mandated to comply with these standards.

Individuals diagnosed with or suspected of having communicable diseases are required to follow strict guidelines to prevent further transmission.

This includes refraining from travel unless approved by health authorities and adhering to hygiene measures, such as wearing masks and physical distancing, especially at entry points to Dubai.

Enhancing Food Safety and Environmental Health

Moreover, the law addresses food safety regulations and the responsibilities of food-related establishments, ensuring that health standards are maintained across all sectors.

It also covers environmental health, labor accommodations, and pest control, reinforcing Dubai’s commitment to safeguarding public health.

Promoting Cooperation

The new public health law underscores the necessity of collaboration between public and private entities to effectively implement health measures.

By facilitating data sharing and cooperation, Dubai aims to build a resilient public health infrastructure.

This pivotal legislation will take effect 90 days after its publication in the Official Gazette, setting a new standard for health and safety in the emirate.

With these measures, Sheikh Mohammed’s initiative not only safeguards the health of Dubai’s residents but also enhances the emirate’s global standing in public health competitiveness.
