Riyadh Metro Expands Orange Line with Two New Stations

The Riyadh Public Transport Company has announced the opening of two new stations on the Riyadh Metro Orange Line, further enhancing the Kingdom’s largest urban transit network.

The newly added stations are:

  • Railway Station
  • Jarir District Station

These additions are expected to significantly improve connectivity and mobility for commuters throughout the capital.

Overview of the Orange Line

The Orange Line, also known as Line 3, spans 40.7 kilometers, running from the Medina Road axis to Prince Saad bin Abdulrahman I Road.

It represents the third and final line to be unveiled in the phased rollout of the Riyadh Metro network.

Phased Rollout

All six lines of the Riyadh Metro became fully operational with the opening of the Orange Line on January 5, 2025.

The phased opening began on December 1, 2024, with the inauguration of:

  • Blue Line (Line 1)
  • Yellow Line (Line 4)
  • Purple Line (Line 6)

Subsequently, the Red Line (Line 2) and Green Line (Line 5) opened on December 15.

A Major Transit Network

Operated by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC), the Riyadh Metro is now the largest metro system in the Middle East and holds the distinction of being the world’s longest driverless train system.

  • Total Network Length: 176 kilometers
  • Total Stations: 85, including four major interchange hubs

Early Adoption and Usage

The metro system has seen remarkable early adoption, with the RCRC reporting over 18 million users in just 75 days post-launch.

Key statistics include:

  • Total Trips Completed: Over 162,000
  • Total Distance Covered: 4.5 million kilometers

These figures highlight the growing public reliance on sustainable transport options in Riyadh, marking a significant step forward in urban mobility for the city.
