Saudi Arabia Accelerates Airport Digital Transformation Under Vision 2030
Saudi Arabia is rapidly scaling its digital infrastructure across airports, building on the success of biometric and e-gate systems piloted in Jeddah, Riyadh, and Neom Bay.
The next phase focuses on deploying advanced self-service biometric technologies (face and fingerprint recognition) and automated gates nationwide, aligning with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 and National Aviation Strategy.

Infrastructure Modernization
The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) has already installed 152 e-gates at major airports, including Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, and Madinah, integrating visa, biometric, and airline databases to streamline border control.
Neom Bay Airport’s newly launched Smart Gates exemplify this shift, using self-service kiosks for biometric scanning to reduce wait times and improve efficiency.

Operational Efficiency and Air Traffic Management
The initiatives aim to boost annual passenger capacity to 330 million by 2030 and enhance air cargo capacity to 4.5 million tons annually.
Digital Air Traffic Management systems are part of broader efforts to modernize infrastructure, including the $147 billion airport expansion program targeting global connectivity to 250 destinations.
Traveler Experience
Riyadh Air, the new digital-first carrier, is pioneering biometric verification, allowing passengers to use facial recognition for check-in and boarding—positioning the Kingdom as a leader in seamless travel.
These advancements are critical as Saudi Arabia prepares to host major global events, including Expo 2030 and the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
Vision 2030 Alignment
The digital overhaul supports the National Aviation Strategy’s goal to transform Saudi Arabia into a global logistics hub while contributing $82.3 billion to GDP by 2037.
With $20 billion allocated for digital infrastructure and ongoing mega-projects like King Salman International Airport (targeting 185 million passengers by 2050), the Kingdom is redefining aviation standards.
This transformation not only enhances efficiency but also underscores Saudi Arabia’s ambition to become a leader in tech-driven travel solutions.
