How to Switch Mobile Network Providers in the UAE Without Changing Your Number

If you’re looking to change your mobile network provider in the UAE but want to keep your existing number, the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) service makes it easy.

Introduced by the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) in 2013, MNP allows users to switch providers without losing their mobile number.

Important Considerations

• Prepaid Balance: Any remaining balance on your prepaid account will be lost during the porting process. It’s advisable to use up any credit before initiating the switch.
• Outstanding Bills: You can still port your number if you have unpaid bills or an active contract, as long as your line isn’t suspended. However, if you don’t settle your dues, your new service may be disconnected until the outstanding amounts are cleared.
• Timeframe: The porting process typically takes one to two working days, and you will receive SMS updates from both your old and new providers.

Steps to Switch Providers

Switching to e& (formerly Etisalat):

1. Fill out the MNP request form, providing your mobile number, name, and email.
2. Customer service will contact you to assist with the process.
3. Ensure your number is active and not suspended.

Switching to du:

1. Visit du’s porting page and enter your mobile number.
2. Choose your preferred mobile plan (prepaid or postpaid).
3. You will receive a confirmation SMS and a new SIM card will be delivered to you.

Switching to Virgin Mobile:

1. Download the Virgin Mobile UAE app and select ‘Join Us’.
2. Choose a mobile plan and enter your current number.
3. Ensure your number is registered in your name and is active.

During the transfer process, you may receive a temporary number until the switch is complete.
