9 Key Changes Coming to the UAE in 2025

As we step into 2025, the UAE is set to implement several significant changes that will impact residents and visitors alike. Here’s what you can expect:

1. Emiratisation Initiatives

Private sector companies with a workforce of 20 to 49 employees are now mandated to hire at least two Emirati citizens. This move aims to bolster local employment and enhance the skills of the national workforce.

2. Ban on Single-Use Plastics

Starting June 1, 2024, Dubai Municipality will enforce a ban on single-use plastic bags, eliminating the option to pay 25 fils for them. This initiative is part of a broader effort to reduce plastic waste, encompassing Styrofoam containers, cups, straws, and other plastic items.

3. Salik Surge Pricing

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a new surge pricing policy for Salik. From late January, motorists will incur a fee of AED 6 during peak hours, adjusting the cost of traveling across Dubai.

4. Increased Corporate Tax for Multinationals

Large multinational enterprises (MNEs) will now face a minimum corporate tax rate of 15% on profits, up from the previous rate of 9%.

This change aims to align the UAE with global tax standards.

5. Parking Pricing Policy

The new Congestion Pricing Policy will introduce a fee of AED 25 per hour for public parking near event zones, starting in February 2025.

Initially, this will affect areas around the Dubai World Trade Centre during major events.

6. Sewage Bill Increase

For the first time in a decade, sewage system fees will rise to 1.5 fils per gallon, increasing from 1 fil. This adjustment reflects the growing demand for urban infrastructure maintenance.

7. Lower Driving Age

A new federal decree has lowered the minimum driving age to 17 years, allowing younger individuals to obtain their driver’s licenses and enhance mobility.

8. Alcohol Tax Reinstatement

A 30% tax on alcoholic beverages has been reinstated, likely leading to increased prices in bars and restaurants throughout the UAE.

9. EV Charging Station Fees

Electric vehicle charging stations will no longer be free. New rates will be set at AED 1.25 per kWh for rapid DC chargers and AED 0.70 per kWh for slower AC chargers, plus VAT.
