Saudi Woman Executed in Mecca for Killing Husband With Acid

Saudi authorities announced Sunday that a woman convicted of killing her husband in Mecca has been executed.

The Interior Ministry, in an official statement, said the woman — identified by her initials H.M.T. — murdered her husband, F.D.A., by pouring a corrosive acid on him while he slept, causing fatal injuries.

Prosecutors charged her with premeditated murder, and the case was referred to court. The verdict, which found her guilty, was upheld at every judicial stage before the execution order was issued.

The ministry described the crime as a “heinous act involving the unjust taking of an innocent life” and said the death sentence was carried out as a deterrent.

Authorities confirmed the execution was carried out under Ta’zir, a discretionary punishment in Islamic law.

The execution marks the 248th carried out in Saudi Arabia this year, including four women.
