Saudi Arabia Updates Regulations for Vehicle Inspection Facilities

The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing has issued updated technical specifications and operational requirements for motor vehicle periodic inspection facilities, aiming to raise safety standards, improve service quality, and attract investment into the vehicle services sector.

Key Updates:

  • Classification system: Facilities categorized into four types, based on capacity, number of inspection lanes, and vehicle type (including trucks, trailers, and hazardous-material carriers). Mobile inspection units are also covered.
  • Design & infrastructure: Strict standards for site layout, parking, ventilation, air conditioning, lighting, and fire prevention, in full compliance with the Saudi Building Code.
  • Accessibility: Mandatory facilities and support services for people with disabilities.

  • Operations & safety: Surveillance cameras, digital licensing codes, electronic payment options, worker protective equipment, and strict waste control measures.

The ministry said the framework will enhance compliance efficiency, support urban planning goals, and improve the quality of technical services for vehicle owners.
