The victim, whose appearance was permanently altered by the procedures, has filed a civil claim seeking QR 30 million in compensation. The court has referred this civil claim to the appropriate civil court for further consideration.

The case, which was closely followed, centers on allegations of negligence and reckless conduct. The Public Prosecution charged the surgeon with causing harm to the victim’s safety due to carelessness and inadequate medical practice.

The prosecution invoked Articles 1, 312, and 313 of the Penal Code, calling for a severe penalty for the accused.

A second defendant—a hospital—was also implicated in the case. Evidence revealed that the surgeon performed the procedures while employed at the hospital, which failed to prevent the errors that led to the patient’s injuries.

The court found that both the surgeon and the hospital had contributed to the harm inflicted upon the victim by failing to meet the standards of professional medical care.

According to court records, the victim sought medical treatment to have cosmetic fillers removed. However, the surgeon instead performed an unnecessary and flawed surgery.

After developing infections, the patient returned to the hospital multiple times, only to be advised to undergo another procedure. Despite this, the second surgery led to further complications, including worsening wounds and permanent disfigurement.

The surgery also caused the victim to lose sensation in several areas of her body, with no improvements in her appearance.

The accused surgeon’s failure to choose the proper medical procedure and the hospital’s oversight were deemed pivotal in the patient’s suffering. In response to the victim’s complaint, the Public Prosecution appointed a medical committee to assess the situation.

The committee’s findings concluded that the surgeon’s assessment was flawed and the rushed surgery was carried out without sufficient expertise or care.

The court’s ruling held that the plastic surgeon’s negligence and breach of professional ethics directly led to the victim’s disfigurement.

In light of these findings, the civil suit for compensation will be further investigated by the civil court.

This case brings attention to the importance of diligence and caution in medical procedures, particularly in the field of cosmetic surgery, where patients often place their trust in medical professionals to enhance their appearance but can face dire consequences when errors occur.
