The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) has reported that more than 32,000 visa violators were apprehended in the UAE from January to June 2025.

This significant figure highlights ongoing efforts to enhance compliance with the country’s residency and employment laws for foreigners.

Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, director general of the ICP, stated that inspection campaigns were conducted to reduce the number of violators and ensure a dignified living environment for residents and visitors.

Many of those apprehended are being prepared for referral to the competent authorities for legal action.

The ICP emphasized the importance of these inspections in instilling a culture of legal compliance within society and providing opportunities for violators to rectify their statuses or face deportation.

Approximately 70% of those apprehended have already been deported after completing the necessary legal procedures.

This crackdown follows a comprehensive visa amnesty program that ran from September to December 2024, allowing violators to leave the country without facing re-entry bans or to secure new work contracts. Authorities have warned that fines for overstayers will be reinstated following the amnesty.

Al Khaili reaffirmed the ICP’s commitment to intensifying inspection campaigns and employing specialized task forces to apprehend violators.

The authority has made it clear that it will pursue strict legal measures against those who violate UAE’s residency laws, as well as those who harbor or employ them.
