Enhancing AlUla as a Cultural Hub

AlUla’s inclusion in the Smart City Index reflects Saudi Arabia’s ambition to position the city as a prominent heritage, cultural, and tourism destination.

The integration of modern technologies, bolstered by artificial intelligence, aims to protect archaeological treasures while enriching the visitor experience.

Advanced digital solutions, including crowd management systems, smart transport services, and interactive applications, are being utilized to ensure seamless exploration of the city.

Evaluation Criteria

The IMD Smart City Index assesses cities based on several criteria, including residents’ perceptions of smart city initiatives, the balance between economic and technological factors, and the alignment of urban development with citizens’ needs.

The index also emphasizes the role of digital technologies in optimizing resource use, reducing carbon footprints, and enhancing public spaces to better serve residents.

Strengthening Competitiveness

In a related development, the National Competitiveness Center (NCC) and IMD formalized their collaboration in 2023 through a bilateral agreement in Lausanne, Switzerland.

This partnership aims to boost Saudi Arabia’s competitiveness in line with Vision 2030.

Key figures, including Minister of Commerce Majid bin Abdullah Al-Qasabi, attended the signing ceremony, underscoring the commitment to leverage global expertise and best practices.

The NCC reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing competitiveness by utilizing IMD’s consulting services and educational programs.

This collaboration follows Saudi Arabia’s rise in the IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook, where it improved eight places to secure the 24th position globally, reflecting significant progress in government policy and digital transformation efforts.
