Saudi Arabia Eases Iqama Renewal for Residents with Family Abroad

Saudi Arabia’s General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat) has announced a new policy that simplifies the Iqama (residency permit) renewal process for residents with family members currently outside the Kingdom.
Under this new rule, the head of the household must remain in Saudi Arabia during the renewal, but all family members do not need to be present.

Key Highlights of the New Iqama Renewal Policy

- Head of Household Presence is Sufficient: The previous requirement for all family members to be physically present has been removed. As long as the head of the household is in the Kingdom, Iqama renewal can proceed smoothly.
- Electronic Exit and Re-Entry Visa Extensions: Families can now extend exit and re-entry visas for members outside the Kingdom entirely online. Utilizing the Absher platform and SADAD system, residents can manage visa extensions digitally, eliminating the need for in-person visits to passport offices.
- Administrative and Humanitarian Relief: This update provides significant relief for expatriates, especially those whose family members are abroad for education, medical treatment, or emergencies. It helps them avoid legal risks and delays associated with expired residency permits.
