UAE: Parental Sponsorship Duration for Children’s Residency Visas

Understanding Family Visa Sponsorship in the UAE

A resident in the UAE, who holds a regular two-year visa, recently inquired about the duration for which he can sponsor his twins’ visas. According to Article 9 of Federal Law No.

(29) of 2021 concerning the entry and residence of foreigners, a foreigner with a residence permit may sponsor family members to reside in the UAE.

The law specifies that residents can sponsor their spouses, sons under the age of 25, unmarried daughters, and children with special needs regardless of age.

Importantly, the residence permits for family members are valid for the same duration as the sponsor’s permit, as stated in Article 54 of Cabinet Resolution No. (65) of 2022.

For the twins, the father can sponsor his daughter without any age restrictions as long as she remains unmarried. However, he can only sponsor his son’s residency visa until he turns 25.

For further details, the father is encouraged to contact the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) in Dubai or the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security (ICP).
