Dubai: Students in the UAE who frequently use public transport can take advantage of special discounts applicable to buses, the Dubai Metro, and Trams, as well as special bus passes.

These benefits are designed to make commuting more affordable for students nationwide. To apply for a student transport card or pass, applicants must provide proof of enrollment in a UAE school or college, including a valid student ID, an enrollment certificate, and a valid Emirates ID.

Abu Dhabi: Unlimited Free Travel Available

In Abu Dhabi, students can purchase an annual public transport permit issued by AD Mobility, the emirate’s official transport authority.

This permit allows for unlimited free travel within Abu Dhabi, covering the city, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra (excluding intercity bus services).

To obtain the student permit, students must first apply for a Hafilat Personalised Card, which is linked to their Emirates ID and offers subsidized transport rates.

This card also allows for balance transfers in case of loss or damage. Public transport permits can be obtained from Sales and Recharge Machines located at bus stations, shopping malls, and supermarkets, as well as at Customer Happiness Centres.

Cost: The student permit is priced at Dh500 and is valid for one year.

Dubai: 50% Off Fares and Shopping Discounts

In Dubai, the student nol card not only provides public transport discounts but also acts as an international student discount card, offering a 50% discount on fares and access to thousands of offers, including shopping and flight discounts.

In 2024, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai launched a ‘Student nol Package’ in collaboration with the International Student Identity Card (ISIC) Association.

The student nol card serves as a personalized international student ID and can also be used as a payment method at retail outlets throughout the UAE.

Cost: The student nol card costs Dh70 (which includes Dh50 for the application fee and Dh20 for nol card credit), plus an additional Dh25 fee for ISIC registration.

Eligibility: The nol student card is available to students aged 6 to 23 enrolled in schools or universities across the UAE.

How to Apply: Students can apply for the student nol card via the nol Pay app. Required documents include:

  • A letter of enrollment or enrollment certificate
  • A recent photograph with a white background
  • A valid Emirates ID
