Saudi Arabia Operates 306 Seismic and Volcanic Monitoring Stations

The Saudi Geological Survey (SGS) announced that the Kingdom now operates 306 seismic and volcanic monitoring stations across the country.
According to the SGS, the network consists of 229 seismographs and 92 ground acceleration sensors, alongside 63 devices for monitoring crustal deformation, 21 instruments for water flow in volcanic areas, and 29 sensors for monitoring gas emissions in volcanic regions.

The Saudi National Seismic and Volcanic Monitoring Network integrates broadband seismic stations, ground acceleration units, and DGPS/GPS stations to track crustal movement.
The system provides essential data to assess risks, update building codes, and educate the public on geological hazards.
Officials emphasized that the network is particularly critical for monitoring earthquake activity and potential volcanic threats in the geologically active western region of the Arabian Peninsula.
