Saudi Arabia Registers 2,748 New Urban Heritage Sites

Riyadh, Sept. 1, 2025: The Heritage Commission has announced the registration of 2,748 new urban heritage sites on the National Register of Urban Heritage, bringing the total number of registered sites across the Kingdom to 36,919.

According to the Commission, the newly registered sites are distributed across several regions:
- Makkah Region: 635 sites
- Eastern Province: 8 sites
- Asir Region: 1,729 sites
- Northern Borders Region: 35 sites
- Al-Baha Region: 340 sites
- Hail Region: 1 site

Expanding Protection and Investment
The initiative forms part of the Commission’s strategic plan to expand legal protection for urban heritage, support site rehabilitation and investment, and highlight the historical and cultural value of these locations.
Public Participation Encouraged
The Commission also urged the public to contribute to the identification and documentation of heritage sites through the “Archaeological Report” service, available on its official social media channels or via the Unified Security Operations Center (911).
This large-scale registration underscores Saudi Arabia’s ongoing commitment to preserving its rich cultural identity and promoting heritage as a pillar of its Vision 2030 goals.
