In January 2024, nearly 44,000 jaywalking incidents were reported in Dubai, resulting in eight fatalities from run-over accidents.

The updated law now includes fines ranging from Dh5,000 to Dh10,000 for those whose jaywalking leads to traffic accidents, especially in areas with speed limits of 80 km/h or higher.

Previously, the fine for jaywalking was Dh400, but the new law escalates penalties, including the possibility of imprisonment for up to three months in high-speed zones.

Pedestrians are urged to adhere to traffic rules and utilize safe crossing options such as subways, footbridges, and smart pedestrian crossings.

Authorities encourage the public to stay alert while crossing roads and to follow safety tips, including avoiding distractions and using pedestrian signals.

The move aims to enhance road safety and protect both pedestrians and drivers in the UAE.
