The diamond, weighing 21 carats and classified as Fancy Intense, is among the rarest in the world with a global rarity rate of only 0.01%.
The gang had meticulously planned the heist for over a year after learning about the diamond’s arrival in Dubai from Europe.
Using fake identities, the suspects posed as intermediaries for a wealthy buyer, renting luxury vehicles and booking meetings in five-star hotels to gain the trader’s trust. They convinced the trader to bring the diamond to a private villa for a viewing.
However, the Dubai Police’s General Department of Criminal Investigation quickly identified the suspects and executed simultaneous raids on their hideouts, recovering the stolen diamond hidden in a small refrigerator.
The merchant commended the authorities for their rapid response and professionalism, expressing gratitude for the swift resolution of the case.
