Legal Protections Under New Law
The 2024 domestic violence law expands the definition of abuse to include physical, sexual, psychological, emotional, and economic harm.
It emphasizes the right to privacy and confidentiality for victims and mandates certain professionals to report known or suspected cases of domestic violence.
Penalties for abusers have been significantly increased, with fines now ranging from Dh5,000 to Dh50,000, and stricter consequences for repeat offenders.
The legislation aims to create a safer environment for all individuals, particularly vulnerable populations like children and domestic workers.
This comprehensive approach underscores the UAE’s commitment to combating domestic violence and supporting victims through accessible resources and legal protections.
