UAE: Sharjah Launches Automatic Utility Connections for Tenants

Sharjah – In a significant move to enhance convenience for residents, Sharjah has introduced an automatic utility connection system for tenants upon registering their rental contracts.
This new initiative, launched by the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (Sewa) in collaboration with Sharjah Municipality, eliminates the need for separate applications to activate essential services like electricity, water, and gas.

Once a rental contract is attested by the municipality, tenants will receive an immediate text message detailing the required deposit amount.
Following the payment of this deposit, utility services will be activated automatically, streamlining the process significantly.
Previously, tenants had to go through multiple steps, including attesting their tenancy contract and separately applying to Sewa for service activation, which could be time-consuming and cumbersome.
This new system is part of the UAE’s broader efforts to reduce bureaucracy and improve customer satisfaction through technology-driven services.
Dr. Hussein Al Askar, Director of Customer Service at Sewa, emphasized that this initiative marks a pivotal shift in service delivery, enhancing the overall experience for tenants.
The integration of services not only saves time for residents but also boosts operational efficiency for utility providers.
This initiative aligns with Sharjah’s commitment to providing smart, streamlined services, reflecting the emirate’s focus on improving the quality of life for all residents.
