Apple specifically cautioned against charging in poorly ventilated areas, such as beds or sofas.
“Do not sleep on a device, power adapter, or wireless charger, or place them under a blanket or pillow while connected to a power source,” the company stated.
Continuous contact with warm surfaces, even within safe temperature limits, can lead to discomfort or burns, Apple added.
To ensure safe charging practices, users are advised to:
- Keep devices in well-ventilated areas
- Avoid charging in flammable or chemical-rich environments
- Take extra precautions if they have conditions affecting heat sensitivity
The warning is particularly relevant for those who charge their phones overnight in air-conditioned rooms, where airflow may be limited.
Experts recommend charging iPhones on hard, flat surfaces away from soft furnishings and direct sunlight to mitigate risks.
As smartphones face increased stress from extreme weather and intensive app use during summer, Apple’s guidance serves as a timely reminder for users to prioritize device safety.
