Smoking is prohibited in most enclosed public spaces, including shopping malls, cinemas, restaurants, government buildings, and public transport. Additionally, smoking is banned in educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and places of worship.
Designated smoking rooms are the only indoor areas where smoking is permitted, provided they meet specific ventilation and isolation requirements.
Federal laws also prohibit smoking in vehicles with children under 12 present, with fines starting at Dh5,000 for violators.
The sale of tobacco products to anyone under 18 is forbidden, and sellers must verify ages, facing severe penalties for non-compliance.
While strict, the UAE does allow smoking in designated outdoor areas and licensed venues that meet safety standards. Public beaches may permit smoking, but shisha is banned in these locations.
The UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention encourages tobacco-free workplace initiatives, promoting a smoke-free environment across organizations.
Understanding these regulations is crucial for residents and visitors to navigate public spaces safely and responsibly, contributing to a healthier community.
