UAE Eid Al Adha 2025 Holidays: Essential Information for Employees

The UAE government has officially declared a four-day public holiday to celebrate Eid Al Adha, running from June 5 to June 8, 2025. Both government and private sector employees will enjoy time off, with work resuming on Monday, June 9.
Eid Al Adha, one of the most significant festivals in the Islamic calendar, commemorates the spirit of sacrifice and coincides with the conclusion of the annual Hajj pilgrimage.

Arafat Day, which precedes Eid, is observed on June 5 and is a day of fasting and reflection.
Employees are often curious about their rights regarding public holidays, especially when these holidays overlap with weekends.
Under UAE Labour Law, specifically Article 29, if a public holiday falls on a weekend, it will not be compensated with an additional day off.
Employees required to work on a public holiday are entitled to either a compensatory day off or payment at their regular salary plus at least a 50% increase.
Legal experts confirm that employers are not obligated to provide extra leave for holidays that coincide with weekends, although additional days off can be granted by mutual agreement.
For those whose annual leave overlaps with public holidays, the Labour Law states that these holidays count as part of the employee’s annual leave, without extending the leave period.
Eid Al Adha will be celebrated on Friday, June 6, in the UAE and several other countries, while some nations will observe it on Saturday, June 7, due to moon sighting discrepancies.
As the holiday approaches, understanding your entitlements can help ensure a smooth and enjoyable Eid celebration.
