India and Pakistan Agree to Ceasefire After US Mediation

In a surprise announcement Saturday, US President Donald Trump declared a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, following days of intense conflict involving jet fighters, missiles, drones, and artillery. The clashes had raised concerns globally due to the nuclear capabilities of both nations.

“After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE,” President Trump stated on Truth Social. He commended both countries for “using Common Sense and Great Intelligence.”

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio revealed that the agreement was the result of extensive negotiations involving himself, Vice President J.D. Vance, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and other high-ranking officials. “I am pleased to announce the Governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to start talks on a broad set of issues at a neutral site,” Rubio posted on X.

Rubio further praised the leaders, stating, “We commend Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif on their wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship in choosing the path of peace.”

The announcement follows a period of heightened tensions, with Pakistan launching counterattacks on Saturday after three of its air bases were reportedly struck overnight. The escalating conflict had sparked fears of a wider regional crisis.

Pakistan’s foreign minister has confirmed the ceasefire agreement. As of now, there has been no official statement from the Indian government. The US-brokered ceasefire is being hailed as a crucial step towards de-escalation and potential dialogue between the two nations.
