The UAE’s efforts to enhance its medical tourism offerings are set to attract more international patients and bolster the nation’s economy.
Recent efforts include the launch of dedicated portals by Abu Dhabi and Dubai, designed to assist medical tourists in accessing healthcare services, booking appointments, and arranging accommodations.
The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) introduced the Dubai Health Experience (DXH) to promote the city as a leader in health tourism, emphasizing luxury and a seamless patient experience.
Abu Dhabi’s Medical Tourism e-Portal features a network of 40 accredited healthcare facilities, offering nearly 300 treatment packages.
These initiatives highlight the UAE’s focus on specialized medical fields such as dentistry, orthopedics, and cosmetic surgery.

To facilitate access for international patients, the UAE has implemented specialized entry permits for medical tourists. In Dubai, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs manages these permits, reinforcing the city’s status as a medical tourism hub.
In 2022, the UAE welcomed 674,000 medical tourists, contributing $270 million to the economy. The country’s appeal as a medical tourism destination is further enhanced by its thriving wellness sector, which saw visitors spend approximately $5.4 billion last year.
This robust activity highlights the UAE’s growing prominence in the global medical and wellness tourism markets, driven by high-quality healthcare services and innovative initiatives.
The country’s strategic location, advanced infrastructure, and ongoing innovations—such as AI-driven solutions for medical tourism—further enhance its appeal.
The UAE’s commitment to quality healthcare is underscored by initiatives like the Emirates Health Services Innovation Strategy and the National Strategy for Wellbeing.
As the UAE continues to invest in its healthcare sector, it is well on its way to becoming a premier destination for medical tourism, attracting patients from around the world seeking high-quality medical care.
