Do You Need to Register Your Domestic Worker in the UAE’s Wage Protection System?

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) has confirmed that employers of domestic workers must register under the Wage Protection System (WPS).
This official electronic platform ensures timely and efficient salary payments through authorized banks, exchange houses, and financial institutions in the UAE.

As of April 1, the WPS is mandatory for five specific domestic worker professions, including personal health care providers, personal trainers, private agriculture engineers, personal tutors, and public relations officers.
Additionally, MOHRE has identified 14 other domestic worker roles, such as housemaids, security guards, and nannies, for which registration is optional.

The WPS offers several advantages, including documentation of wage payments, simplified transfer processes, and secure direct deposits into workers’ bank accounts, enhancing financial safety.
Registered domestic workers will receive a WPS card, allowing them to withdraw salaries from ATMs and make purchases.
To register a domestic worker, employers must present their Emirates ID and the worker’s Emirates ID at an approved bank or financial institution.
This system aims to strengthen the employer-worker relationship by promoting transparency and stability in wage payments.
