Sharjah: Beggar Caught Near Mosque with Dh14,000 in Three Days

Sharjah Police have apprehended a beggar who reportedly earned Dh14,000 in only three days while soliciting near a mosque.
The arrest was conducted by the anti-begging unit within the Special Tasks Department after a community member reported the individual, who was claiming financial hardship.

In line with a crackdown on illegal begging during Ramadan, police have intensified awareness campaigns and increased patrols.
The arrested man, an Arab national, was found to be living in the country illegally. Investigations revealed he had been exploiting the goodwill of the public to generate significant income through begging.
Dean Al Rakan Omar Ghazal Al Shamsi, head of the beggars tracking team, highlighted the social dangers associated with begging, noting that many individuals use it as a means to make quick money during the holy month.
He reiterated the importance of community involvement in reporting such activities, urging residents not to give to beggars but to donate through verified channels.
In recent weeks, police across the UAE have made numerous arrests related to begging, with Dubai reporting 127 beggars detained and over Dh50,000 seized.
Authorities continue to warn the public against engaging with beggars and encourage donations through approved organizations.
