In a statement, the Qatar Calendar House emphasized that while astronomical calculations indicate that March 30 will mark the beginning of Shawwal and Eid al-Fitr for the year 1446 AH, the final confirmation will depend on the official sighting of the crescent moon.

The ultimate decision rests with the Crescent Sighting Committee at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, which will assess moon sighting reports and announce the official start of Eid accordingly.

Faisal Al-Ansari, Executive Director of the Qatar Calendar House, highlighted that based on astronomical calculations, the crescent moon marking the beginning of Shawwal will be born on the afternoon of March 29 at exactly 1:58 PM Doha local time.

However, he explained that the visibility of the crescent will depend on various factors, including atmospheric conditions and the moon’s position relative to the horizon at sunset. This means that while the new moon will technically exist, its sighting with the naked eye or telescopes will be subject to observation conditions on that evening.
