The primary objective of this initiative is to ensure that red meat remains accessible at affordable prices for citizens during Ramadan, while also balancing supply and demand to maintain price stability in local markets.
In a statement released on Tuesday, MoCI specified that Widam Food Company will oversee the supply of both local and imported sheep, selling them to citizens at subsidized rates.

Each citizen will be allowed to purchase up to two sheep per ID card, priced at QR1,000 for both local and imported options.
Sales will take place at Widam’s slaughterhouses located in Al Shamal, Al Khor, Umm Salal, Al Wakrah, Al Shahaniya, and Abu Nakhla. Additionally, customers will have the option to purchase through the company’s electronic application.
To ensure timely delivery, the initiative mandates immediate slaughtering at the slaughterhouses, facilitating quick access for beneficiaries.
Widam Food Company will set up an air-conditioned tent for beneficiaries, organized into separate sections for men, women, and the elderly.
There will be additional fees of QR16 for slaughtering, cutting, and packaging, as well as QR34 for porter services, to be paid via separate vouchers.
The ministry reiterated its commitment to ongoing inspection campaigns at slaughterhouses to ensure compliance with the initiative’s pricing and the availability of sheep.
MoCI will also monitor the availability of other food products in local markets, taking necessary measures to protect consumers against monopolistic practices.
Consumers are encouraged to report any violations or concerns, with the ministry confirming that it welcomes complaints and suggestions through its call center and social media channels.
