Role Purpose

The Collection Photographer will be responsible for photographing antiquities objects including but not limited to pottery, coins, and other objects from the department collection.

He/she will provide digital photographic documentation of objects and resolutions of images for purposes of publication, reproduction, research, study.

The Photographer must exercise care and skill in handling artwork safely.

He/she will work closely with a wide range of museum professionals including curators, registrar, and conservators.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Talented and experienced photographer to produce images of exceptional quality and capture the essence of an artwork.
  • Excellent technical skills, using digital and non-digital cameras and industry-standard software such as Photoshop.
  • Extensive theoretical and working knowledge of the principal and techniques of studio lighting and digital photography.

Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent professional qualification, such art and design, digital imaging, fine art, graphic, photography.
  • Minimum three (3) years art photography experience in a museum, gallery or studio setting.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Prepares, sets up, arranges, studio lighting and other professional photography equipment for photographing artworks for print and electronical reproduction, plan composition and lighting for all types of objects to meet museum standard and assignment objectives.
  • Provide digital documentation of the museum collection.
  • Produce high quality images.
  • Provide on-going art installation documentation of various exhibitions, programs, and events.
  • Coordinate shooting schedule with Head of Collection on behalf of other museum department requests.
  • Prepare colour accurate images files for archiving, print, and electronic reproduction.
  • Troubleshoots and solves complex technical problems associated with professional images.
  • Research advancement in digital technology for art documentation and image storage to maintain current best practices in cultural heritage imaging and preservation.
  • Maintain accurate inventory list of photographic equipment and tools.
