UAE Passport 8th Globally, Strongest in Arab World in 2025 Henley Index
The UAE has achieved a remarkable milestone, with its passport now ranked as the strongest in the Arab world and 8th globally, according to the mid-year 2025 Henley Passport Index.
This ranking marks the highest level of global mobility ever attained by an Arab nation, showcasing the UAE’s expanding diplomatic influence.

With the UAE passport granting visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 183 destinations, this achievement reflects the country’s proactive foreign policy and the numerous visa waiver agreements it has established over the past decade.
Since 2015, the UAE has skyrocketed from 42nd place to its current standing, making it one of the most significant ascents in the index’s history.
The Henley Passport Index, known for its authoritative rankings based on the number of accessible destinations, uses exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), along with Henley & Partners’ extensive research.
Singapore holds the top spot, providing access to 193 destinations, while Japan and South Korea follow closely with 190.
The UAE’s rapid rise can be attributed to strategic agreements with various countries, including a recent landmark deal with China that allows visa-free entry for citizens of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states. This initiative has significantly bolstered the UAE’s global mobility status.
In contrast, traditional passport powerhouses like the UK and the US have seen a decline in their rankings, now sitting at 6th and 10th place, respectively.
This shift highlights a broader trend of increasingly restrictive entry policies in Western nations, while emerging economies like the UAE are liberalizing their visa regimes.
Dr. Christian H. Kaelin, Chairman of Henley & Partners, noted that the findings indicate a fundamental shift in global mobility dynamics.
As traditional mobility leaders lose ground, the UAE’s progress reflects its aspirations to become a leading global hub for travel, business, and diplomacy.
This impressive ranking not only enhances the UAE’s international standing but also underscores its commitment to fostering a secure and open environment for its citizens and visitors alike.
