Air Arabia to Co-Pilot Saudi Budget Airline from Dammam

Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has announced that a consortium led by UAE-based Air Arabia has won the bid to launch and operate a new low-cost national airline based in the Kingdom.

- Base of Operations: The new carrier will operate from King Fahd International Airport in Dammam and will serve both domestic and international routes.
- Consortium Partners: The winning consortium includes Air Arabia, Kun Investment Holding, and Nesma Group.
Operational Goals
- Destinations: By 2030, the airline is expected to serve 81 destinations, including 24 domestic and 57 international routes.
- Passenger Capacity: The airline aims to transport approximately 10 million passengers annually.
- Fleet Size: Plans include operating a fleet of 45 aircraft.
- Job Creation: The initiative is projected to create more than 2,400 direct jobs.

Strategic Alignment
GACA stated that this initiative is designed to enhance air connectivity in the Eastern Province, increase seat capacity, and provide more competitive options for travelers. It aligns with Saudi Arabia’s ambition to establish its civil aviation sector as the leading one in the Middle East by 2030.
This move is part of the broader aviation sector development plans outlined in the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, aimed at boosting the Kingdom’s transportation infrastructure and economic growth.
