  • Inspections: SFDA inspection teams, in collaboration with relevant government agencies, uncovered multiple food safety and quality violations during ongoing inspections aimed at enhancing oversight and preventing contamination or food poisoning.
  • Seizures and Destruction:
    • Over two tons of food of unknown origin were seized.
    • Approximately 200 kg of spoiled products unfit for human consumption were destroyed.
  • Health Violations: Significant quantities of food were found stored improperly at a residential site managed by expatriate workers, leading to their arrest and subsequent legal action.

  • Factory Measures: Production lines at a food factory were halted after the seizure of about 150 kg of products of unknown origin. Violations included:
    • Possession of unknown raw materials.
    • Poor hygiene standards leading to insect infestations.
    • Rust in food preparation equipment.
    • Use of ineffective insect traps.
    • Expired materials present in the production area.
    • Unsafe access routes for workers.

Legal Implications

The SFDA emphasized that it has taken all necessary legal actions against violators. Under the Food Law, penalties may include imprisonment for up to ten years, fines of up to SR10 million, or both.

The authority continues to monitor compliance with food safety regulations and encourages the public to report violations via the unified number 19999. This initiative highlights the importance of ensuring consumer safety and the effectiveness of coordination between relevant authorities.
