The case began in October 2024 when a victim reported being scammed through an Instagram advertisement offering English language certificates, including IELTS.

The victim contacted the seller via WhatsApp and paid AED 1,500 for the certificate but was later blocked after repeated delays.

Authorities traced the bank account used for the transaction to the defendant, who claimed he was unaware of the fraudulent nature of the funds. He had received several transfers from a friend who asked him to collect and forward the money.

Despite presenting evidence, the court found the defendant guilty but suspended his sentence, allowing him a chance to avoid jail time if he stays out of trouble.
