Reasons for the Shift
- The change is attributed to the lunar calendar cycle, which allows pilgrims to perform Hajj rituals in more moderate weather conditions over the coming years.
- The Hijri (Islamic) calendar is approximately 11 days shorter than the Gregorian calendar, causing Hajj dates to shift earlier each year.
Benefits of the Seasonal Change
- Eased Physical Demands: The milder weather will help reduce the physical strain of Hajj, especially for the elderly and those with health concerns.
- Improved Crowd Management: Cooler conditions will aid in logistics and safety planning, enhancing the overall experience for pilgrims.
The NCM has released a 25-year Hajj calendar that outlines how the pilgrimage dates will align with the Gregorian calendar seasons through to 2050. This shift is expected to significantly enhance the comfort and safety of pilgrims during their sacred journey.
